Mugabe and the White African

Last night I watched the documentary Mugabe and the White African. It is truly amazing how such a wonderful country has been decimated by this tyrant, Mugabe. I was so amazed and impressed at the courage, strength and resilience of the farmers and their families involved in this particular story. The same would hold true for all the other farmers and families whose farms were taken.

This documentary is a must see. I will warn you that it is upsetting and heartbreaking to watch. I was angry, sad, and frustrated at watching this family go through so much hardship. You realize how much is lost when these farms are taken over and doled out to all the political patrons and friends of Mugabe. In this particular case Mike Campbell, his family and their 500 employees lost everything.

Sadly Mike Campbell passed away a few days ago. Even though I did not know him, I offer my condolences to his family.

Mid-life crisis - hardly

No, it's not a Ferrari or a 25 year old Scandinavian girlfriend. It's a rock concert.

On April 22nd Michael, Me and Brian ( a good friend from Toronto) are going to see RUSH in concert here in Baltimore. It's a long story but many years ago myself and Brian flew the band around on a couple of trips. They are 3 of the nicest and most talented guys I have ever had the pleasure of being around. I can't wait.

It will be great to see Brian again and also, to be at a concert with my son.

Did anyone notice ?

Did anyone notice my new sign off ? I have decided to change from:

Carpe Diem to

"Help someone else to help themselves"

I would hazard a guess to say that a large percentage of us does exactly that with many different causes, individuals and charities. The world is a better place because of this.

"Help someone else to help themselves".

Chemo 10 (Round 7)

I had to man up and have my chemo. Well, I was actually given a choice.

All was good again today except for my hoarse voice and possibility that I could have had a virus or a bacteria (anyone's choice). Dr Schraeder gave me the choice of holding the chemo for a few days and take a 3 day regimen of antibiotics or have the chemo today and take the antibiotics. I took the easy way as I was already there ! But I sounded really cool and tough when I said "go ahead, give me all you got - Pansies".

You gotta love this

"If you ever want to feel good about yourself, help someone else".

I have no idea who said this but I would add: Help someone else to help themselves.

Carpe Diem.

What ? He can't talk !

For the past 3 to 4 days my voice has been hoarse and it has been somewhat difficult to talk. As this posses quite a problem for me I have deduced that I am not well. Who knows what ??? I am supposed to have chemo tomorrow so I'm sure they will check me out and let me know what's going on. I'm not being cavalier or taking this lightheartedly but I should have gone to the Doctor earlier. My bad.

Carpe Diem.

From Robyn

So my dad volunteers to drive people to medical appointments (among other things) and he has been raving about one of the Russian translators Nina. Anyone who knows me knows that I love old people (not in a creepy way, we just get along). So today, my dad took me on one of his trips to meet her. She was as wonderful as he said she was. She is almost 84 years old and still totally has everything together. She is an independent, self-sufficient woman, and we talked for a while as we waited at the Social Security Office. She had a lot of wonderful things to say, and amazing experiences to share. But above all, she really cares about people and she understands people. Even at her age, she works, she exercises, she cooks, she cleans and she still finds time to be a caregiver for others less fortunate than herself. she said a few things to me, and I'm paraphrasing: you must always remain positive because there are always people out there that are not as fortunate as you (count your blessings), good things happen to good people, keeping busy stops you from constantly thinking about yourself and your ailments. Wonderful wisdom from a wonderful lady. I'm glad I met her and got to talk with her. She reminds me of my Bobba! A lot of things she said were very applicable to myself and my family. What a wonderful, sweet lady!
